State Court to Decide Shiley Suit: The California Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether foreign residents who received implants of potentially defective artificial heart valves can sue the Irvine-based manufacturer in California courts or must pursue litigation in their home countries. The court, in an order issued Nov. 28, said it would review the jurisdictional issue involving the cases of two Scandinavian men who died when their valves fractured. The men’s families seek damages from Shiley Inc., the valve manufacturer, and its parent, New York-based Pfizer Inc.
