The Sacramento Kings placed guard Bobby Hansen on the injured list and re-signed Rick Calloway. Hansen suffered torn cartilage in his left knee during practice Monday. He is expected to miss three to four weeks.
Noureddine Morceli, who ran the fastest 1,500 meters in the world this year, has signed to run the mile in the Sunkist Invitational indoor meet Jan. 18 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Pittsburgh Penguins center Mario Lemieux, inactive since September because of a back problem, hopes to begin a rehabilitation program later this week and could be skating by New Year’s Day. The earliest Lemieux can hope to play is late January, said Dr. Charles Burke, the team’s orthopedist.
Oliver Luck, once a backup quarterback for the Houston Oilers, was named general manager of the Frankfurt Galaxy, the newest franchise of the World League of American Football. The Galaxy will be owned and operated by the league until an owner is found.
