Humberto Gonzalez, the powerful Mexican slugger matchmaker Tony Curtis hopes will bring 18,000-plus boxing crowds back to the Forum, will defend his World Boxing Council light-flyweight title at the Forum tonight.

Gonzalez, 29-0 and going for his 24th knockout, meets Rolando Pascua, 24-5 with eight knockouts, of the Philippines.

This is his third Forum appearance and the sixth defense of his championship. He drew 5,666 and 7,187 for his two Forum fights. The Forum boxing staff is hoping for 7,500 to 8,000 tonight. In his last Forum fight, he stopped South Korean challenger Lim Jung-Keun in the fifth round.

Gonzalez is expected to fight at the Forum four times in 1991. Curtis hopes he can generate the crowds of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Ruben Olivares and Chucho Castillo several times attracted more than 18,000 to Forum fights.

Gonzalez also is scheduled for an ESPN fight Feb. 17.

Las Vegas promoter Bob Arum wants to match Gonzalez against another unbeaten champion, Michael Carbajal (18-0) of Phoenix, the IBFtitlist.
