Bradley’s Plan to Improve Traffic
Mayor Bradley’s transportation improvement plan only touches on the bicycle as part of the solution to the sobering traffic congestion that confronts us daily. Yet bicyclists are contributing to everything that people say they want: clean air, reduced noise pollution, energy efficiency and diminished reliance on our oil-producing friends and enemies.
The fact that, as a nation representing 4% of the world’s population, we consume 40% of the world’s gasoline, and are willing to go to war to keep doing so, seems enough of an impetus for the mayor to take a bolder stand against the automobile. With the bicycle a ready alternative, there really is no excuse to persist with our destructive reliance on motor vehicles.
