Soviets Buy More Corn From U.S.
The Soviet Union has bought more corn from the United States, boosting purchases this week to more than 1.3 million metric tons, the Agriculture Department said Thursday.
Officials said that private exporting companies sold an additional 300,000 tons to the Soviets under terms of the current long-term supply agreement between the two countries. No prices or other details were disclosed.
A sale of 266,500 tons of corn was announced on Tuesday, the first large U.S. grain order in two months. Another sale of 385,000 tons was announced on Wednesday.
The pact, including a three-month extension, expires Dec. 31. A new five-year agreement will begin at that time.
