Gang Member Gets Death in 2 Separate Murders
Superior Court jurors in Compton voted for death in the gas chamber for a Lynwood gang member convicted of murdering a 30-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy in separate shootings nearly three years ago.
Sentencing of Carmen Lee Ward, 20, a member of the Ghost Town Crips, is set for Jan. 17 in the slaying of Ronald Stumps in October, 1987, and the killing of teen-ager David Adkins in February, 1988.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin McCormick, a member of the hard-core anti-gang prosecution unit, said that Ward killed Stumps for purportedly breaking a piece of rock cocaine in half and shot Adkins after asking the youth what gang controlled the neighborhood.
Neither victim belonged to a gang, McCormick said.
