Nave Wouldn’t Have Had His Chance Now
If Doyle Nave had played for USC in 1989 or 1990 instead of 1939, he never would have had the opportunity to enter the game as a fourth-string quarterback. Coach Howard Jones made a winning choice; Jones was not a one-quarterback coach.
Doyle Nave made his place in Trojan football history because he was given the chance. He remained a loyal Trojan throughout his last season in 1990.
