LA HABRA — Police were searching for a man with an Uzi machine gun who held up a local sporting goods store Monday evening and may also have robbed a shoe store just a few miles away.
Shortly after 7 p.m., a man confronted a clerk at a Big 5 sporting goods store at 1610 W. Whittier Blvd. with what appeared to be an Uzi machine gun and demanded money, police said.
The man fled with an unknown amount of cash, said La Habra Police Sgt. Kevin Rayisch. He was not spotted again.
Shortly before 6 p.m., a Payless shoe store at 1400 West Imperial Highway in La Habra was also hit by a robber.
In that holdup, a man took some items to the cash register and, when asked how he would be paying, produced a revolver and demanded cash. He got away with an unknown amount of money and was seen driving off in a gray or green two-door sedan.
No injuries were reported in either robbery.
