Two men accused of kidnaping four San Diego State University students and robbing them of $58 pleaded not guilty Friday to 12 felony counts.

Timothy Long, 19, and Terry Alphonso Turner, 27, who also uses the name Bryan Tanner, pleaded not guilty to four counts of kidnaping for robbery, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery and four counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Long, a crewman on the dock landing ship Germantown, and Turner, a Los Angeles resident, are being held on $1-million bail. Each could be sentenced to four consecutive life-in-prison terms if convicted on all counts.

The pair is charged with abducting four male students outside an El Cajon Boulevard pizza restaurant the night of Nov. 28.

During a preliminary hearing earlier this month, all four victims testified that Turner fired a shotgun shell into the air after one of the students was able to withdraw only $40 from an ATM machine. The students also testified that Long fired a shotgun blast over the legs of two of the victims and through the door of a Mercedes-Benz that was allegedly also commandeered by the defendants.

Long and Turner were apprehended by police after the students convinced the pair that they could get more money at a dormitory near SDSU.

The men’s trial is scheduled for Feb. 13.
