OXNARD : Man Found in Field Died of Stab Wound

The investigation continued Wednesday into the fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old El Rio man whose body was found in a field east of Oxnard, authorities said.

Paul Marvin Smedley died of one stab wound to the back, the Ventura County coroner’s office said. His body was found in a field at Vineyard Avenue and Simon Way at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday by a man who was walking his dog, authorities said.

The victim, a divorced father of two, was last seen at about 11 p.m. leaving his house in the 400 block of Lemar Avenue, authorities said.

Detectives are trying to recreate Smedley’s activities during the night, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Harwell said. They have no suspects in the stabbing of the unemployed man, he said.
