Fumes From Grill May Have Killed Man

Share

A 42-year-old man was found dead in his apartment Wednesday evening, apparently the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning from a barbecue he had brought inside to cook dinner, police said.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, was found on his couch by a neighbor shortly after 6:30 p.m.

The victim apparently lighted the barbecue to cook a steak, then passed out as carbon monoxide filled the room, Police Lt. Patrick Gildea said in a prepared statement. The preliminary indication was that he died of asphyxiation.

The doors and windows of the apartment, located in the 19000 block of Magnolia Street, were closed, Gildea noted.

The case is under investigation by the county coroner’s office.
