From Times Wire Services

Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert F. Kennedy, is a private person who doesn’t talk much about herself or her famous clan, but ask her something political and it’s no holds barred.

“When the Iraqi invasion occurred, I really hoped the President would ask us all to tighten our belts and look for alternative forms of energy,” she told Ladies’ Home Journal. “Instead, what have we got--troops over there to preserve everybody hopping in their cars?

“Our answer, again, is aggression. It drives me bananas. People will shed blood so we can be comfortable over here?”

Mrs. Kennedy says in the February issue of the magazine that she still considers politics “the highest calling.”

Her 38-year-old son, Joseph, is a Democratic congressman from Massachusetts, and daughter Kathleen, 39, has run unsuccessfully for Congress.

Daughter Kerry, 31, was recently married to Andrew Cuomo, son of New York Gov. Mario M. Cuomo.
