How to Solve the Case of Disappearing Tracks
I think it’s a sad commentary that Southern California does not have a half-mile dirt race track for sprint cars now that Ascot Park has closed. However, I think I have a solution.
Thinking of the prime commercial property occupied by Hollywood Park and Santa Anita, I think America’s most popular spectator sport (auto racing) would be welcomed in many now-vacant areas if the promoter would just put parimutuel machines in the infield and betting windows on the concourse behind the stands and thus make a certain percentage of the take available to the state. After all, money talks.
