Five North County youths were arrested Friday night in connection with the armed robbery of a San Marcos grocery store, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Five teen-agers from Oceanside and Vista allegedly held Juan Garcia at gunpoint as they emptied the cash register of his Palomar Market at 1450 W. Mission Road at 10:30 p.m., sheriff’s deputies said.

Two passerbys followed the five male youths, aged 15 to 17, as they made their getaway. Ron and Sharon Kittleson then flagged down Deputy Tony Guerra, who was patrolling the area, and told him what they had seen, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Guerra continued the pursuit and caught the teen-agers in the 3000 block of Perdido Street in San Marcos. The teen-agers were taken in without incident and booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of armed robbery.

The Sheriff’s Department said detectives from Oceanside and Carlsbad are also questioning the youths in connection with robberies in their cities since Thursday evening.
