Ten months after Wilt Chamberlain ended a 22-year grudge against his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers said that the club will retire his uniform number in March.
The Sixers will honor Chamberlain March 18 before a game against the Orlando Magic.
Chamberlain’s grudge against the Sixers began in 1968, when he agreed to a trade to the Lakers, for whom he played five seasons. Chamberlain claimed that at the time of the deal that he had been promised part ownership of the 76ers by former owner Ike Richman. But Richman died before any agreement could be formalized.
