Alpha Microsystems: The Santa Ana computer company reported a third-quarter loss of $868,000, contrasted with earnings of $60,000 in the year-earlier quarter. Sales for the quarter ended Nov. 25 rose slightly to $13.7 million from $13.6 million. For the first nine months, the company lost $4.5 million, contrasted with earnings of $752,000 for the corresponding period last year. Sales dipped to $40.7 million from $40.8 million. Chairman Robert B. Hitchcock attributed the loss to a general softness in the computer industry.
