6 Sentenced for AIDS Protest During Mass

NEW YORK — Six AIDS activists were sentenced to community service Monday for disrupting a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with a demonstration against Catholic Church opposition to sex education and use of condoms.
They were convicted of misdemeanor charges of disrupting a religious service, disorderly conduct, trespass and resisting arrest in connection with a massive protest during the service on Dec. 10, 1989, which resulted in 111 arrests.
