A Loma Portal clothing store manager who confronted four shoplifters Monday, absorbing a punch to the jaw, identified a man an hour later at an unusual Logan Heights car-side lineup as a suspect in the theft, police said.

David Jiminez-Sanchez, 23, of San Diego, was booked on suspicion of robbery, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The manager of the store in the 3600 block of Midway Drive told police three men walked in and began hustling skirts, blouses and jackets off racks about 10:30 a.m. Monday, Robinson said. A fourth man waited in a nearby car.

The first of the three men, clutching clothes, ran out to the car before Charlton-Smith could block the front door, Robinson said. So did the second man. She met the third man at the door, however, he said.

Clawing and pushing at each other, he dragged her outside the store, where he slugged her in the jaw.

An hour later an officer stopped a car matching the robbers’ car in Logan Heights, Robinson said.

The store manager was taken to the scene and identified Jiminez-Sanchez as one of the robbers, Robinson said. She was unable to identify the other two men as suspects, however.

All but about $100 of the merchandise was found, either on the ground outside the store or in the car, Robinson said.
