City Council Puts Off Setting Election Date

Share

The Los Angeles City Council put off a vote Tuesday on setting the date for a special election to fill the seat of the late 9th District Councilman Gilbert Lindsay.

But the council is expected to take up the matter today, when it is likely to adopt an ordinance setting the date for April 9 to coincide with the regular municipal election. Council President John Ferraro urged his colleagues to vote for a postponement Tuesday after objections were raised by Councilmen Nate Holden and Robert Farrell, who said they thought the residents of the 9th Distict had not been adequately informed about the pending election.

Lindsay, a 27-year council veteran, died Dec. 28 after a long illness. City officials had hoped to schedule a special election for his replacement on the same day as the April 9 citywide election.
