SHORT TAKES : Barr Brings New Ammo to Suit

Actress Roseanne Barr has gone back to court with more ammunition in her racketeering lawsuit against the National Enquirer.

The tabloid pays security guards, hospital personnel and others to hand over medical records and take unwanted photos of celebrities, her amended lawsuit filed Tuesday says.

The star of “Roseanne” alleged that the tabloid has paid individuals to purloin property of such stars as Elizabeth Taylor, Tom Hanks and the late Lucille Ball.

She filed the amended version of her $35-million racketeering lawsuit after the tabloid’s attorneys challenged her initial claim, saying it failed to meet requirements of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Barr alleges four of her love letters were stolen and published in exchange for “money or other things of value worth in excess of $5,000.”

She and her husband, Tom Arnold, filed the original lawsuit in October.

Enquirer attorneys said the new filing does not change their position. Richard Borow said officials of the Lantana, Fla.-based publication have done no wrong.
