THE SIDELINES : Cardinals Sign Jamie Moyer

ST. LOUIS —
The St. Louis Cardinals, in search of pitching depth, have signed free-agent left-hander Jamie Moyer to a one-year, minor-league contract.
Moyer, 28, was 2-6 with a 4.66 earned-run average last year with the Texas Rangers. He appeared in 33 games and had 10 starts.
Cardinals General Manager Dal Maxvill said Wednesday that Moyer will be invited to the team’s major-league camp in February. While pitching for the Chicago Cubs from 1986-88, Moyer had a 28-34 record.
