NCAA Makes It Official: Sweet is New President
UC San Diego Athletic Director Judy Sweet was named president of the NCAA for a two-year term, succeeding Al Witte of Arkansas, during the final day of its national convention Thursday in Nashville, Tenn.
Sweet, 43, who had been athletic director at UCSD since 1975, ran unopposed for the president’s position after serving two years as secretary-treasurer, the NCAA’s second-highest post. She is the first woman to hold either position.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
USIU guard Kevin Bradshaw has moved to the No. 1 spot on the NCAA scoring list following his single-game record 72-point performance against Loyola Marymount Saturday. Through 17 games, Bradshaw, a 6-foot-6 senior, has 577 points for a 33.9 average. He moved ahead of Mississippi Valley State’s Alphonzo Ford, who is averaging 33.2 points through 13 games. Bradshaw finished second in the nation in scoring last year with a 31.3 average.
