NHL ROUNDUP : Blackhawks Power Past Maple Leafs

Michel Goulet had two of the Chicago Blackhawks’ five power-play goals and the line of Goulet, Jeremy Roenick and Steve Larmer produced 11 points Thursday night in defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs, 7-2, at Chicago.

The Blackhawks’ five power-play goals tied a team record. Four came in the second period when Chicago blew the game open.

Roenick and Goulet each had two goals and two assists and Larmer set up three goals as the Blackhawks, with the best record in the NHL, moved seven points ahead of St. Louis in the Norris Division.

Toronto, which lost its league-high 29th game, opened the scoring 4:09 into the game when Mike Krushelnyski beat goaltender Ed Belfour with a 20-foot wrist shot during a delayed penalty.

Belfour, the NHL leader with 26 victories, stopped 25 shots.

Pittsburgh 5, Calgary 1--The Penguins scored on three of their first five shots and cruised against the Flames at Pittsburgh.

Kevin Stevens assisted on three of the Penguins’ four first-period goals, and goalie Tom Barrasso won for the 10th time in 11 games.

The Penguins won for the 12th time in 16 games.

Boston 5, Quebec 3--The Bruins spotted the Nordiques a quick goal at Boston, then came back behind Dave Christian and Craig Janney, who each scored two goals.

The Nordiques have not won at the Boston Garden since since Oct. 29, 1987.

Joe Sakic scored his 25th goal 41 seconds into the game.

But Christian tied it for the Bruins exactly one minute later, and Janney put the Bruins in front with a power-play goal at 17:06.

Hartford 5, Vancouver 4--The Whalers got first-period goals from Rob Brown, Robert Holik and Dean Evason to extend their unbeaten status at Vancouver to seven victories and two ties since the Canucks last won, 4-3, on Feb. 1, 1985.
