Little Love for ‘Letters’ Casting

I was among the “very young, very trendy crowd” that bought tickets expressly to see MacLachlan in a live performance. Substituting Scott Valentine and Melissa Gilbert for MacLachlan and Boyle because they are approximately the same age is absurd.

Imagine showing up at a Talking Heads concert and discovering that New Kids on the Block had been substituted because both groups are white.

The show has no production values--no sets, no costumes, on/off lighting, no crew and a two-person cast--yet tickets are an outrageous $27.50 each, plus $5 for parking. What are we paying for? The chance to see actors who normally can’t appear on stage due to film and television commitments? Maybe, but then your favorite actors may decide not to show up that night, a fact the theater is unwilling to be accountable for because of a “no refunds, no exchanges” policy.
