OJAI : McKinney to Serve as LAFCO Alternate

Share

Ojai Councilman Robert McKinney will represent the 10 Ventura County cities as an alternate member of the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission.

McKinney’s four-year appointment marks the first time that an elected Ojai official has served on the commission since it was formed in 1963.

“I was very pleasantly surprised,” McKinney said after the announcement.

The commission reviews and approves boundary changes for cities and special districts in the county.

The Ojai City Council recently decided to undertake a major study of areas in the unincorporated Ojai Valley that may be interested in annexing to the city.

Ojai Mayor Nina Shelley said the council has tried since 1987 to get a member on the commission.

“We got a lot of good support from four other cities,” she said. “I was really gratified.” Shelley called McKinney’s appointment a “plus for the future of Ojai Valley.”

As the alternate, McKinney will attend commission meetings but will vote only in the absence of one of the two city members, council members Dorill B. Wright of Port Hueneme and Alex Fiore of Thousand Oaks.
