GUN PLAY: One of KNAC-FM’s hottest request items is a 1985 bootleg version of “Don’t Cry,” one of Guns N’ Roses’ oldest songs, and one that has never appeared on an album (its original master tape was lost until recently). The band considers the track its lucky song, especially since the song’s original demo helped get the band signed to Geffen Records. Eager to keep its luck intact, GNR has recorded a new version of “Don’t Cry,” which could pop up on the band’s l-o-o-o-ng awaited upcoming album, “Use Your Illusion,” due out later this year. . . . Ex-Clash bassist Paul Simonon has teamed up with L.A. guitar vet Gary Myrick and vocalist Nigel Dixon to form a new band called Havana 3 A.M. The group’s new album, due out Feb. 12 from I.R.S. Records, features such tunes as “Blue Motorcycle Eyes,” “Hey Amigo,” “Death in the Afternoon” and “Blue Gene Vincent.” . . . And Jim Lauderdale has signed with Warner/Reprise Records. The country crooner’s new album, due in April, will feature “King of Broken Hearts,” a tribute to Gram Parsons and George Jones, “My Last Request” (a duet with Rodney Crowell), “Planet of Love” and “Wake Up Screaming.”
