Insurers Sued Over Payouts: About 30 class-action suits in Santa Cruz County allege that State Farm Insurance and other big underwriters haven’t made adequate payments to victims of the 1989 Bay Area Quake. State Farm denied the charge, and company spokeswoman Marcela Iglesias said that of more than 27,000 claims totaling $120 million, State Farm had received only 28 complaints. The suits contend, among other things, that thousands of damage claims were improperly closed with no or insufficient payment to victims.
