Need for Pro-Peace Candidate in 26th District

Share

Exactly one Valley congressman defected from his party’s position in authorizing President Bush to attack Iraq. All the Republicans supported the authorization; the Democrats opposed it except for Congressman Howard L. Berman (Panorama City).

Congressman Berman’s action presents a problem to voters of the 26th District who believe that war should truly be a last resort. In most districts such voters can simply support the Democratic candidate, but in the 26th, both the Republican and Democratic candidates will presumably be hawks willing to support the foreign adventures of a militaristic administration.

In the 26th and other districts currently represented by hawkish Democrats, it is time for voters who oppose the pattern of perpetual worldwide covert and overt U.S. military intervention to commence action to see that there is at least one pro-peace candidate on the next ballot.
