Judge Judith McConnell, the presiding judge of the San Diego Superior Court, has been appointed to the prestigious state Judicial Council, the panel that issues rules for California court administration, Superior Court officials announced Thursday.

McConnell, 46, the first San Diego judge on the panel in years, is one of five Superior Court judges from around the state on the 21-person panel. Her term is two years.

She already has been notified by Chief Justice Malcolm Lucas, who heads the council, that she will take over the panel’s Superior Court committee Feb. 1, according to a statement announcing her selection.
