Texas Instruments: The Dallas electronics firm said it suffered a fourth-quarter loss of $56 million on revenue of $1.759 billion, contrasted with net income of $36 million on revenue of $1.724 billion a year ago. For the year, TI had a $39-million loss on revenue of $6.567 billion, contrasted with net income of $292 million on $6.522 billion in revenue for 1989. The 1990 results include $49 million in charges related to cost reductions and asset writedowns. TI blamed the red ink on investments undertaken to improve its strategic position, but it said the investments are causing near-term strain and are not without risk.
