Weekly Vigil for Peace Continues in San Diego

Share

The Persian Gulf War continues to stir anti-war sentiment across the country and the Southland. In San Diego, a weekly vigil and march at Balboa Park drew between 1,000 to 1,500 people Sunday. The Coalition for Peace in the Middle East, a San Diego-based organization, has sponsored the weekly vigils in an area between the lily pond and the fountain in the park. Those who called for an end to the war marched with placards filled with anti-war messages and the peace symbol. Last week’s peace vigil drew about 5,000 marchers for peace. But even with Sunday’s drop-off in participants, Rick Nadeau, spokesman for the Coalition for Peace, said, “I think that’s pretty good for Super Bowl Sunday.”
