LOS ALAMITOS : Dominguez Completes Rare Double
Henry Dominguez completed a rare training double Saturday night when odds-on favorite Takin On The Cash won the $136,000 El Primero Del Ano Derby for quarter horses at Los Alamitos.
Wednesday at Santa Anita, the Dominguez-trained Simple Surprise won the $139,400 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes for thoroughbred fillies.
“Two hundred-granders with two breeds on two tracks in one week,” Dominguez said, shaking his head.
Takin On The Cash, the national champion 2-year-old colt last year, won by three-quarters of a length over Shawnes Diamond, with Little Doc Mason another three-quarters of a length back in third.
The Texas-bred Dash For Cash colt returned $3.20 to win.
