PACIFIC 10 : Arizona State Recovers in Time to Beat Stanford
Arizona State went 10 minutes without a field goal but managed to hang on and defeat Stanford, 58-47, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Sunday.
Tarence Wheeler ended the drought with a three-point basket to give Arizona State a five-point lead with 2:08 to play.
Arizona State (12-5, 3-4) won at Stanford for the first time since 1986 and stopped its two-game losing streak. After starting this season 8-1 at home, Stanford (10-8, 3-5) lost its second in a row at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal lost to No. 5 Arizona, 78-76, on Thursday.
Arizona State held Stanford without a field goal over the final eight minutes of the half and led, 24-14, at halftime. Stanford made only four of 17 shots (24%) in the half.
Kenny Ammann scored 21 points for Stanford and Adam Keefe added 16. Isaac Austin scored 17 for Arizona State.
