Film on Hold: British film director David Lean has become ill and postponed work on his latest epic, “Nostromo,” the story of an Italian adventurer starring Dennis Quaid, a producer said Monday. Lean, 82, best known for “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Doctor Zhivago,” had planned to start shooting the $44-million “Nostromo,” an adaptation of the Joseph Conrad novel, in Nice, France, on March 4. French producer Serge Silberman said Lean traveled to London to undergo checkups, but declined to explain further.
