Show Will Go to War: Television’s “Major Dad” will go to war, but the sitcom about military life won’t take a political stand, said the show’s co-star. Actress Shanna Reed, who plays the wife of a Marine Corps major, said writers had been working on a script about the Persian Gulf for some time. But she said they wanted to wait until the United Nations’ Jan. 15 deadline for Saddam Hussein to pull out of Kuwait before putting the topic on the air. The CBS show, starring Gerald McRaney, shows its support for U.S. troops right on the soundstage door, which has been festooned with yellow ribbons ever since troop deployment began. An episode dealing with war airs Monday. “We’re not going to get into opinions on whether we should be there or not,” Reed said. “We’re going to talk about how the Marines at home feel about being left behind and how the families of those Marines feel about them wanting to go over there.”
