Don’t Move Oxnard High

Share

The Oxnard Union High School District Board of Trustees wants to relocate Oxnard High School to the southwest corner of Gonzales and Patterson roads, based on unsupported and alleged flying safety hazards near the airport. This is a ridiculous contention and not based on evidence, fact and law. The Oxnard High School is a viable school, with buildings that are structurally sound and safe. The Federal Aviation Administration last summer issued a ruling that flying conditions at the airport were not a safety hazard to Oxnard High School or central Oxnard. The State Allocation Board has twice ruled it could not provide funds for the relocation of the school.

The airport noise report by the firm hired by the school board said, “The acoustics results were compared to acceptable standards for educational facilities.” This report fully refuted the board’s contention to the contrary.

There are approximately $45 million worth of structurally safe buildings and facilities at the high school, and the board proposes to sell same for $4.5 million. It would be a terrible waste of taxpayer dollars.
