Poway Football Coach Elrod Calls It Quits

Share

Brad Elrod didn’t know if he was burned out or just tired, but he resigned Monday as football coach at Poway High School.

Elrod, 40, cited personal reasons for his decision.

“It was time to make a change,” he said. “I’ve been doing it a long time. I’ve been thinking about (resigning) for a while. I’m not exactly what I want to do and the energy’s got to be there, and I’m not sure I’ve got it right now.

“There’s no black and white to this (decision). Maybe burned out is the word, I don’t know. It’s going to be a drastic change . . . But I think there’s other things in my life too, and I know my family has sacrificed for me each year. They moved down here because this is where I wanted to be. Maybe this is pay back time.”

Elrod coached six years at Downey High School and three years at Alemany before that.

He compiled a 22-27-2 record in five years at Poway. The Titans were 10-21-1 in the Palomar League under Elrod and made the playoffs once, in 1988. They were 4-5-1 last season.
