Driver Fatigue Cited in Crash Fatal to 5

An investigation of a November highway wreck that killed five people pointed to a fatigued Spring Valley truck driver, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

There were no mechanical failures, said the 150-page report, which supported allegations that the truck was speeding as it approached stopped traffic on Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley on Nov. 23.

The report was prepared by the Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team in Los Angeles and delivered to the Riverside CHP office Tuesday.

The driver, O.D. Martin, 55, of Spring Valley, is charged with five felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. He has been in custody since the wreck and is scheduled for a March 15 preliminary hearing.
