SEAL BEACH : Golf Course May Change Districts

Share

The City Council this week took the first step toward changing district boundaries that would take the Old Ranch Golf Course out of Mayor Edna Wilson’s district and put it into Councilman Frank Laszlo’s.

On a 3-2 vote, the council asked city staff to draft an ordinance making the changes, despite arguments by Wilson and Councilman Joe Hunt that the action should be delayed until May, when U.S. Census data will be available for ensuring that the districts’ populations would be equal.

Hunt said he thinks that Laszlo requested the change for political reasons. Bixby Ranch Co. has proposed building homes on the property along with a redesigned golf course and businesses.

Laszlo, who criticized the Bixby plan Monday night, said his constituents in College Park East are more affected by what happens to the property than those in Wilson’s, who primarily live in Leisure World.
