Directors of Cal State Northridge’s Ventura campus are considering starting a masters degree program in the English department next fall.

Department officials will hold a meeting Feb. 14 for students who might be interested in enrolling in a part-time program, said Dan Wakelee, assistant director of the Ventura campus. He said the decision to proceed will hinge on the degree of public interest at the 5:30 p.m. meeting in campus offices at 2151 Alessandro Drive.

The Ventura campus offers graduate courses, geared toward teachers and working professionals, in computer education, public health, public administration, educational administration and family and school counseling. Wakelee said the English department would need to enroll at least 20 students in two campus courses each semester to justify the program.

“We’re trying to broaden the scope of our offerings, but we want to make sure there is a demand for it,” Wakelee said. The campus has about 850 part-time and 350 full-time students.

Wakelee said fees for part-time students are $321 this semester, but they may increase in the fall.
