Countywide : Man Gets Nearly 9 Years for Robbery

A Ventura man has been sentenced to almost nine years in prison for driving the getaway car in a robbery at a Ventura savings and loan last summer.

Julian Delgado, 29, was sentenced Monday to eight years and nine months by U. S. District Judge James M. Ideman on federal charges of conspiracy to commit bank robbery.

The conviction stems from a series of robberies in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties between July 26 and Aug. 22.

Robert Poynter, 31, of Ventura and Delgado were apprehended in the Aug. 22 robbery of Santa Barbara Savings in Ventura. On Sept. 4, a federal grand jury charged Poynter in seven bank robberies from Camarillo to Santa Maria. On Oct. 15, Poynter and Delgado pleaded guilty to the Santa Barbara Savings robbery and Poynter pleaded guilty to two Ventura robberies: on July 26 at Security Pacific National Bank and Aug. 1 at World Savings & Loan.

Poynter is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 11.
