FULLERTON : City OKs $90,000 for Ball Field Expansion

Share

City officials have agreed to spend more than $90,000 to improve and expand sports facilities at the Beechwood School Fields.

Normally, the fields are used by the public, Little League baseball teams and the Fullerton Rangers soccer club. However, because of construction of the sports complex at Cal State Fullerton, which is not scheduled to be completed until spring, 1992, the Beechwood fields will also have to accommodate sports teams from the college.

The Beechwood expansion project is expected to be awarded to Rancho Cucamonga-based Bopark Enterprises Inc., which filed a low bid of $91,854 for the project, said Greg Meek, an official in the city’s development services department.

While expansion of the facility is related to increased use by students at Cal State Fullerton, the city will foot the entire cost of the project.

Expansion will include new backstops, electrical outlets, a storage unit and concrete slabs for rest room and concession stands. Bleachers, a home-run fence and a backstop hood may also be added, Meek said.

Beechwood School, at 780 Beechwood Ave., now serves as the offices of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
