LAGUNA HILLS : Tutors Offered Tips on Teaching English
Training workshops for tutors interested in helping foreign-born students learn English will start today in two South County locations.
The South Coast Literacy Council is looking for volunteer tutors to help operate more than 20 teaching facilities in South County.
“We have so many students of all nationalities enrolled, so we always need volunteers to help teach them,” said Onalee Carter of Laguna Beach, who has taught English to foreign-speaking people for 20 years.
The course will be offered Saturdays at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 24231 El Toro Road in Laguna Hills, from 9 a.m. to noon today, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23. Another set of Saturday sessions will be held during the same times on March 2, March 9 and March 16.
Wednesday evening workshops are scheduled for the Villa Del Obispo, 32200 Del Obispo St. in San Juan Capistrano, for six consecutive weeks starting Feb. 6 between 7 and 10 p.m.
