SANTA PAULA : 2 Receive Maximum Sentence in Shooting
Members of rival Santa Paula street gangs were sentenced in Ventura on Friday to seven years in prison, the maximum possible.
Arthur Banuelos, 22, and Larry Renteria, 24, were convicted by a jury in November for their roles in a drive-by shooting in east Ventura in May, Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury said in a prepared statement. No one was injured in the shooting.
Superior Court Judge Frederick Jones cited the danger of the crime and a need to dissuade other gang shootings as reasons for imposing the maximum sentence, Bradbury said.
