Chi Chi Rodriguez’s scorecard offered no hint of the difficult bunker shot he faced on the seventh hole of a $450,000 Seniors tournament Friday at Key Biscayne, Fla. That’s because he holed it out from 60 feet for a birdie en route to a share of the first-round lead.

“One of the greatest shots I ever hit in my life,” Rodriguez said.

He and Bruce Crampton turned in a five-under-par 66s. George Archer and Gary Player were a stroke back in the 54-hole tournament, the first full-field event on the PGA Senior Tour.

Lee Trevino, who won the first of his seven titles in 1990 at Key Biscayne, struggled with his irons and shot 70.

Dottie Mochrie, Meg Mallon and Colleen Walker share the 36-hole lead at 136 in a $400,000 LPGA tournament at Lake Worth, Fla., that was halted by darkness.

Thirty-nine players were unable to finish, a carryover from Thursday’s incompletion of the opening round due to heavy fog that delayed start of play.

The 144-player field will be cut to the 70 low scores and ties when the second round is completed today.
