The Seattle Storm became the seventh team to withdraw from the American Professional Soccer League West, which once had 11 franchises, including the South Bay’s defunct L.A. Heat.

The APSL West also lost its commissioner, Bill Sage. Sage was president of the Storm.

Remaining are teams from Santa Barbara, which is seeking to move to Sacramento, Salt Lake City, which is for sale, Denver and the San Francisco Bay area.

Two former executives of Ascot Raceway have started an organization to promote auto racing in the western United States.

Cary Agajanian, former Ascot president and son of the track’s promoter, J. C. Agajanian, and Ben Foote, who was the track’s longtime publicist and executive vice president, have announced they will stage an auto racing event at the Yuma Speedway in Arizona.

The Feb. 22 event will feature World of Outlaws winged sprint cars.

On Feb. 23 the group’s as yet unnamed racing organization brings the Outlaws to Imperial Raceway in El Centro for an event.

The Agajanian-Foote group will be separate from Agajanian Enterprises, which ran dirt track racing programs at Ascot for 15 years. The race track was closed in November to make way for a business complex.
