The Grove Shakespeare Festival has announced that it has matched a $50,000 grant from the James Irvine Foundation, the largest grant ever received by the Garden Grove-based theater company. The grant and the matching funds are to be used as a $100,000 cash reserve for operating expenses, a theater spokeswoman said.

Ronald Meer has been elected to the board of governors of the Bowers Museum. Meer, who lives in Newport Beach, is president of Creative Age Child Development Centers and is a member of the Lincoln Club of Orange County. In 1987 and 1988 he was president of Center 500, a fund-raising group of the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
