Short Takes : ‘Madama’ Hurts Knee on Stage

Soprano Diana Soviero would agree with opera conductor Edoardo Muller’s view of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” as a “dangerous” work, but for reasons other than its musical demands.

Soviero, playing the title role, banged her knee in the opening night of an Opera Company of Philadelphia production Monday.

Company spokeswoman Elena Park said that it didn’t appear serious and that the singer was treating it with ice.

Soviero put so much into her acting that she landed hard on her knees in that second act and again in the third. She has a repeat performance Friday night.
