President’s State of Union Address
In his address, President Bush made promises he cannot keep. Earlier he had indicated that the war would be quick and easy and clean. It won’t be quick or easy or clean. Now that we know that victory won’t come through the air, we must resort to ground forces. Then we will see the real horror of war.
Promises of multiple domestic programs roll glibly off Bush’s tongue when he knows that after paying for the war, he won’t have a cent for domestic programs.
There is no doubt we will defeat Iraq--but at what cost! And we will not win the war--nor will Iraq--for we know there are no longer any winners in war.
