Azusa : Soliciting License Revoked
The soliciting license of a veterans group was suspended Monday after Police Chief Byron Nelson told the City Council that he had received complaints about the group.
Nelson said residents and business people have complained that American National Veterans Inc. members stand in front of supermarkets and shopping centers, intimidating people into donating money by “rude and aggressive” behavior. The group’s license has been revoked in Los Angeles and La Verne, he said.
A public hearing will be held if American National appeals the suspension, said city spokeswoman Cari Cooper.
The group’s attorney, Paul Sollami, said American National tries to rehabilitate homeless veterans and other homeless people. He said he has asked the attorney general’s office to look into the licensing problems.
